Dive into the world of 261 Fearless

Humana Rock’n’Roll Partner Event 261 Fearless

Meet the 261 Fearless San Antonio Team

Have you ever wondered what's it's like to be a part of a big event with fellow 261 Fearless women? We recently participated in the Humana Rock 'n' Roll marathon series in San Antonio and asked the girls to put pen to paper and share their thoughts and experiences.

We started with Rosie, a young girl of just 11 years who had a dream to meet Kathrine Switzer. She was so excited to meet her heroine and when they first embraced it was a sight so see her jumping for joy! Her energy and joy inspired others all weekend. Well done Rosie!

Once upon a time I was running.  It was not just any run, it was a run with Kathrine Switzer.  I was with Kathrine and all of 261 fearless. I have to say it was the best weekend of my life.  Running that day was the best run I have ever done.  I met so many new friends and I can’t thank Jenny Acosta enough for sponsoring me.

Running the streets of San Antonio, Texas with 261 Fearless was a running dream for me. I was able to meet my role model Kathrine Switzer, a group of amazing, inspiring women and to top it off I was at the starting line with MEB

After reading Marathon Woman, I started to follow Katherine during interviews or articles she would publish. When I found about 261 Fearless, I knew it was an opportunity I had to strive for. I was blessed with the opportunity to be a part of 261 Fearless and meet Katherine in person.  She’s just how I pictured she would be in person: sweet, humble, energetic and a real go-getter. Hearing her talk throughout the weekend, I felt like a little kid who was just star struck.

When I met the other 261 Fearless ladies I was quickly immersed in the same positive energy. Everyone shared stories about different obstacles they had overcome in life and the huge role running played in this. One lady I met had run throughout all three of her pregnancies, this is exactly what I needed to hear. I still get so many people questioning me now, I can only imagine the stigma years ago when your uterus could potentially fall out. The ladies’ motivation was contagious and I felt so excited to be a part of such a great cause.

Probably the thing I expected the least was the fond memories I made with one special runner on our team named Rosie. She was our youngest runner and she “just loves to run!” Her enthusiastic spirit reminded me of why I started running in the first place. I became obsessed with qualifying for the Boston Marathon the past two years and excessive training took away from my love of running. I became so focused on a time that I forgot what it was like to just run for fun.

If running brings me such joy, the thought of spreading that energy to others is exciting. I had thanked Katherine for all the work she did for women in the US in regards to running. She politely thanked me and said “there was still so much more to be done.” There are many parts of the world where women have no rights and activities like running are definitely frowned upon. I look forward to the work that we will do in the future for WOMENS’ GLOBAL RUNNING!

I decided to raise money to support 261 Fearless and run the Rock and Roll 5K in San Antonio because the organization supports women and their strength, vitality, and potential in so many ways. Kathrine Switzer is a pioneer in women’s running and I couldn’t pass up a chance to meet her and support her running organization.

The weekend was amazing! I not only had the opportunity to meet and talk to Kathryn but we actually ran the race with her.  Throughout the 5k race, other runners came up to her and ran with her, excited to meet such a running icon and to tell her their story. Kathryn smiled, listened and supported anyone who approached her. She is a wonderful role model for the young and old, runners and non-runners.  I couldn’t have asked for a more inspiring and fun weekend.  Thank you 261 Fearless and Kathrine Switzer!

I was honored to be part of an amazing team of women who come from different backgrounds but we all ran for a purpose. United we are there for one another and motivating each other. As for myself, running has taught me that I'm capable of so much more.

It's hard to put my weekend with 261 Fearless into words. It was incredible to be around such an amazing group of ladies. It lit a fire in me that I hope I can light in other ladies to be fearless. Running with Kathrine and the team was one of the best experiences and it was truly inspiring to hear other women runners thank Kathrine for just being there at the race. It puts things into a little more perspective to hear things like that. It was an honor to run with everyone last weekend and I'm so thankful for so many new Fearless Friends

Although I’d previously met and known Kathrine for 4 ½ years now, I am still excited as I was the first time we met.  I believe in the powerful message that the 261 Fearless movement has made and how much it has grown in just 2 years. I really want to see clubs opening up in Texas. I was so happy when she announced she would be here with Humana and Rock N Roll Marathon, I just knew I had to go and help out how ever I could. I had a great time helping behind the booth with Deb and Tracey to spread the message of 261 Fearless.  I spent a wonderful weekend with Kathrine and an amazing and inspiring team of women of all kinds of backgrounds. I got to run with Kathrine, a baby bump and mother, other mothers, young women,  (cough) more mature women (we’re never old, right?) and an inspiring young lady coming together for the purpose of the movement. More importantly, I made some wonderful 261 Fearless Texas Friends!

Love you gals!
