Happy Birthday 261: Celebrating 59 Years of the 261 Moment

Every April, we celebrate another run around the sun with the birthday of 261!

Fifty-nine years ago, Kathrine Switzer took a step that changed the future for women in sport. When she lined up at the Boston Marathon in 1967, she didn’t know it then, but she redefined what was possible for women in running.

Because she ran, millions of women have followed.

What began as that one courageous moment, is now a global community.

Not about pace or performance, or comparisons or competitions.
But about growth, self-belief, community, and overall health.

And every day, women around the world are taking steps forward, together.

Celebrate Your Run Around the Sun

This April, celebrate your own run around the sun.

Run, walk, or simply show up for yourself—you’re part of this story.

Take a moment to reflect:

  • What has movement given you this year?
  • What are you proud of?

Then celebrate it!

Be Part of the Next Lap

As we celebrate, we’re also looking ahead.

There are still so many women who haven’t yet had the chance to experience the confidence and empowerment that running can bring.

💜 Will you help another woman take her first step?

A gift today supports the 261 Fearless Education Programs that help women become leaders in their communities. These programs give women the skills, confidence, and support to create lasting change, not just in their own lives, but in the lives of those around them, so they can empower more women to find their voice and lead with fearlessness through the transformative power of running.

Give $15, $26.10, $59 or any amount in honor of this run around the sun.

The next story of courage, confidence, and connection is waiting to begin.

💜 Make a gift in honor of 59 years
💜 Help us reach one more woman

Because every new beginning starts with one step.

Here’s to the miles ahead.
Here’s to the next lap. 💜

How Muscles Work During Speed —The Science of Fast Movement

Speed is not just effort. It’s neuromuscular precision. Every fast movement — sprinting, jumping, quick direction changes —  depends on how efficiently your muscles and nervous system work together. The Brain Starts the Movement Speed begins in the nervous system. When you move quickly, your brain sends rapid electrical signals to your muscles. The faster and more coordinated…
