There’s always a special buzz when 261 Fearless members meet up and never more so than when they’re running together at our 261 Fearless Partner Event – Women Can in Devon, England.Runners had the choice to run the quarter, half or full marathon courses through the Devonshire countryside and along the stunning Jurassic Coast. Members from UK 261 Fearless clubs travelled to the quaint seaside town of Sidmouth, where race registration was based and all routes finished.
Women Can is famous for its welcoming, inclusive and supportive atmosphere and it didn’t disappoint. All runners were celebrated with equal enthusiasm as they crossed the line, conquering personal goals, many running hand in hand with running friends and children who joined them for the sprint finish. A great medal and goodie-bag with local chocolate and boutique gin was a lovely touch.Women Can is also famous for its cream tea with all runners enjoying a scone with jam and cream and a nice cup of tea! 261 Fearless runners also added a special ‘race recovery’ with a dip in the freezing sea, so soothing for muscles that were worn out by the challenging hills along the marathon routes.
Sadly, this will be the last Women Can as race organisers Pauline Beare and Peggy Wiseman celebrated their retirement after the race. We want to thank them for their incredible work organising this event over the last three years but also for many years of effort to make running for women accessible and welcoming. They have done so much to show us that Women Can and we are eternally grateful.
