261 Fearless ran through the Five Boroughs at this year’s TCS New York City Marathon, sharing the message of empowerment for women through running! The spectacular weather and cheering crowds capped off a weekend full of camaraderie, new friendships and fearlessness.
Our weekend began with a 261 Fearless gathering of 50 women and men, where a panel of speakers shared the ways that 261 Fearless has affected their lives and made them stronger women. Kathrine Switzer gave a motivating talk to all in attendance, speaking about how 261 Fearless formed and how our message is spreading around the globe thanks to the efforts of all our hard-working charity team members. And we made that message spread further by writing 261 Fearless postcards to be sent to women worldwide!
261 Fearless Charity Team runners took in the sights at The Top of the Rock on Saturday, checking out the entire New York City Marathon route from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge Start to the Finish Line in Central Park. It was windy and cold at the top, but the spectacular view was worth it!
261 Fearless Team NYC boarded the Ferry to Staten Island bright and early on race day, making their way to that iconic Start Line, ready to hear the booming cannon and Frank Sinatra singing New York, New York as they began their 26.2 mile journey. An enthusiastic 261 Fearless Cheer Station awaited the team in Brooklyn, giving hugs and high fives with purple balloons flying high! Some of our runners ran their very first marathon, and others had completed many more, but no matter the experience level, the emotions, joy and excitement at the Finish Line was in abundance!
Our team of 13 raised almost $70,000 for 261 Fearless! Their hard work and dedication is enabling us to share our message of empowerment through running to women around the world!
